Sedivet®

Active Ingredient
Romifidine

Indication
Sedivet® is indicated for use as a sedative to facilitate handling, examination, treatment and as a premedication agent prior to general anaesthesia.

Characteristics
Sedivet® is a synthetic alpha-2 sympathomimetic agent. As with other agents in this class, there is a dose dependent sedation associated with tolerance of pain. The sedative effect of Sedivet® is induced by a stimulation of presynaptic alpha-2 receptors in the central nervous system. Sedivet possesses a strong affinity for those receptors. Lowering of the head is the first sign of sedation followed by lethargy, reduced sensitivity to environmental stimuli and immobility. Onset of sedation occurs in one to two minutes and lasts 40 to 80 minutes. Induction of anaesthesia may be initiated 8-10 minutes after administration of Sedivet®.

Features:

  • Equine sedative/preanesthetic
  • Used for sedation/restraint to:
  1. Facilitate routine examinations (ocular, oral, rectal)
  2. Facilitate diagnostic procedures (ie. endoscopy, lavage, radiography, ultrasonography)
  3. Standing surgical procedures (ie. laceration repair, wound debridement, castration, joint injection, etc.)
  4. Pre-anaestheti
  5. Use with Butorphanol (Torbugesic) for added analgesia
