Outshine is an extruded nugget that combines oils from soya and linseed with supporting nutrients, including important anti-oxidants, plus super fibres and Digest Plus prebiotic (page 28), to produce a high oil supplement which can be fed to promote weight gain, stamina or simply outstanding coat shine. Soya oil is rich in Omega 6 fatty acids whilst linseed is an excellent source of Omega 3 so Baileys Outshine combines them both to give an optimum balance and avoiding the risk of an imbalance from feeding straight soya oil or boiled linseed. Oil is a concentrated source of slow release energy – however the more oil that is included in the diet, the more antioxidants the body requires to deal with the free radicals produced during its metabolism. Outshine contains additional antioxidants in the form of vitamins E and C, as well as selenium and zinc, to support the safe and efficient utilisation of the oil by the body. Its extruded formula mixes well with compound feeds and straights alike, is appetising and easy to handle. Fed in small quantities, Outshine is particularly useful for increasing the non-heating calorie content of the horse’s diet without significantly increasing the volume fed.

STAMINA
Oil is said to have a “glycogen sparing” effect, since it is used by the horse’s muscles at low work intensities allowing glycogen (stored muscle fuel) to be saved for the muscles during more intense work. This helps to improve stamina as well as the horse’s ability to recover after a hard workout or competition, as his body’s energy reserves are not completely depleted. Up to just 1.3kg (31b) per day, added to the existing balanced diet, will provide additional slow release calories for improved stamina.

WEIGHT GAIN
For those whose appetites are really limited, top up the recommended quantity of a specially formulated conditioning feed with up to 1.3kg (31b) of Outshine, to provide non- heating calories in a small volume. Its excellent quality protein helps build outstanding muscle tone and top line whilst Digest Plus prebiotic(page 28) helps promote gut efficiency.

TYING-UP
Research has shown that horses with muscle-related problems, such as tying up (ERS) or polysaccharide storage myopathy. (PSSM), benefit from a reduction of starch in their diet. In the case of PSSM all mixes and cereals should be removed. Outshine can be used to replace some or all of the cereals in the diet and, its inclusion of “super fibres” from soya hulls and sugar beet further helps to keep the overall starch content of the diet down. Its antioxidant content also helps protect muscle cell membranes. If you are considering feeding Outshine to a horse with a muscle-related problem like tying up, we’d recommend contacting our team of nutritionists for advice on what to feed alongside it.

LAMINITIS
Outshine is useful for providing non-heating calories whilst helping to keep the starch content of the diet to a minimum, something which is important for those who need to gain weight but are prone to lamipitis. Please contact one of our nutritionists if you are considering using Outshine for this purpose, as feeding rates will vary according to individual circumstances.

COAT SHINE
Outshine is ideal for feeding all year round to produce a lovely healthy gloss on your horse’s coat. Just V2II0 per day, added to a balanced diet, is sufficient and is especially useful when coats change in the spring and autumn to help make sure your horse stays in winning form.
